2012 John Deere 3520 Deluxe Cab
Sorry for the stupid questions but i search as much as i can to find answers and post a new thread when i cant find answers. Just trying to get familiar with my machine before it arrives. Does the 3pt always ride in "float" or is there a position to put the lever in in the cab where it will no float so you can essentially dig high areas with a rear blade for example. Like a "lock" mode where the hydraulics wont collapse with the flow of terrain. through searching iam aware that the 3pt does not put downforce on attachments but will float instead. Thanks a ton in advance. Im a very experienced heavy equipment operator but have VERY VERY limited experience with any tractor above a john deere garden tractor

Given that you realize there's no downforce, you've essentially answered your own question. The 3x20 series rear lift goes up with hydraulics, down with gravity. The latter is inherent in the "float" part. You might however review the section on position control in your manual. You don't have to wait for the paper manual either, the 3520 manual is available online here.

Congratulations on your 3000 Series tractor! They are fine machines. The 3000 series have position control for the three point hitch, this controls the depth but will not stop the hitch from riding up when pushed by the attached implement. Hope this is not an over simplistic answer to your question.

That's revealing. Especially since both members responding pointed you toward position control. I thought the link to an advance copy of the 3520 owner manual would actually BE helpful. Silly me.

Just to get back on topic, although the 3 point is a one way hydraulic system (no downforce), most ground engagement tools like blades can change the angle of attack of the bottom blade edge by adjusting the top link length. This dramatically changes the down force of the tool by causing it to "dig in" faster. In my experience, learning how to set the top link for a given attachment is very important. The specific implement manual will probably have more info on this than the tractor manual.

Hi group,
I agree that changing the top link will often make something like a blade "dig" in rather than skim the top. However, as I posted before, I just can't get the blade to be level throughout the angle adjustments. The only way I have found, which was pointed out to me here, is to do a sharp angle and then adjust the top link until the blade is level and it remains level throughout the entire adjustment. That works great but it also destroys the more aggressive blade tilt to have it dig in better. I might be really missing something so I bring this up again. I know you will really like your new machine.
