Question about PTO Operation

/ Question about PTO Operation #41
Interesting thread. I did this inadvertently yesterday when I stood up on my g3038h with PTO turning. There must be a kill switch to stop engine if you stand up with PTO turning. I didn't break anything, and the tractor was just idling, but I was surprised and can see how that could happen.

I wouldn't worry about it, as said the shear pin worked as it should.
But I also wouldn't jump to the conclusions that shutting off the tractor did the number on the shear pin (happened one time? ). It may have been border-line ready to fail.

Some tractors have a free-spin clutch to stop the rotary cutter on the PTO from 'pushing' back through the transmission. This tractor apparently doesn't.
 ... Ive read the whole thread and it seems everbody is intent on buying a new gizmo to put in the driveline. If the tractor maker didnt put it in its not needed. There is no reason a bushog shouldnt "drive" the engine on slowdown on a 60s or newer gear tractor. The gears work both ways and the engine puts out much more torque forward than the bushog could feed back. Im not sure why some HSTs have an over running clutch. Maybe they need them, Maybe a throwback to transmission drive like on old Fords. But Iv been hearing the overunners can cause trouble with a roto tiller.
...Increasing stress on the bearings of the PTO stub by hanging one on the outside is not something to do without a good and known cause.
