Thank you all for the information. I understand now.
Spudgunner, I turned HP Mgmt off for a while a few years ago to see if the 'downshifting' and some other power issues changed any. They did, they got worse. No downshifting but the engine would bog down quickly. In fact I stalled the TC a few times under very heavy load. I turned the HP Mgmt. back on after that. It definitely manages the engine rpm and power.
I'll check the wastegate on mine and see if it is working to spec.
