Looking for a quality electric log splitter in the 20 to 25 ton range... should work on 20 amp 120v but could make 240v if needed.

Had a friend with one years ago with a Baldor commercial motor he used in inside his shop.

Searched and seems the only electric units are cheap 5 ton and less.

His may have come from Northern but search turns up gas only.

I'm pretty sure swisher makes a quality electric splitter. If you don't find a suitable solution it wouldn't be hard to convert a regular splitter to electric.

Buy a 3ph splitter and industrial hydraulic motor/pump. There are lots of them surplus around here but most are three phase. It's a great idea. Not having to listen to some horrible little gas engine.

I just helped a friend convert his power pack from gas to electric. 5 HP 230 Single Phase. He uses it for bending and line boring. He may use it on his splitter as well. He was actually surprised how much noise the pump makes.

WEN makes a good electric splitter but I think 6 ton is the largest I have seen. I have had a wen electric splitter for 4 years and have used the **** out it it with no complaints. I was surprised what it can do.

SuperSplitter: Order Form

This is the American Made version of what you want. DR and others are importing them as well. The kinetic splitter is what works best on 120v

Great response...

I called Timberwolf yesterday and learned they have a electric in the works for next year.

My 22 ton gas splitter has never failed but with large rounds I find it helps to "Read" the wood for a natural crack... still amazed how it bears down and then powers through... probably 30 years old.

I've been running to empty due to the gas available here and the splitter could easily go a year between a week of splitting.

Converting or using a power pack sounds like an option...

The shed has two 20 amp circuits that could be reconfigured for 240 volt is needed... time to watch Craigslist...

My 22 ton Duer has a small Briggs and Stratton engine that continues to perform well...

I have the Swisher. Terrific machine. Everything except for the motor is their standard 22 ton. Love the quiet. And no ethanol-fouled carburetor. It comes set up for 120v but can be converted to 220v. Ours works fine on 120v, even with an extension, BUT the extension should be short (<50ft) and HEAVY (12g). For really gnarly pieces, one has to occasionally "feather" the control/ram lest it stall and trip the breaker.

I'm in the but one and put an electric motor on it camp.

And yeah, the little two stage pumps are quite noisy.

We put a 3 phase motor on a huskee 27 ton powered from a vfd.

It's amazing what going up or down just a few hertz does for the harmonics/noise.

Wonderful to have a report from the trenches...

I'm thinking since they bring the rounds to the wood shed with the tractor and my Sister In Law really isn't one for gas equipment... an electric would be ideal.

She would get frustrated with the gas saws to the point she wanted no part of any of the gas equipment.

She does love the battery Stihl CB200 chainsaw... so another plus there.

Ethanol is a big problem here with small engines...

I had an antique car in the carport... stored with half a tank for a couple of years... it was not the plan but that is how it turned out... the normal temperature variation through the day with humidity accumulated a lot of water... wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it clearly in the glass fuel bowl
