anyone have a recommendation for high quailty gardening tools? not a fan of the big box stores

Used to be that TrueTemper was quality. I've not had to keep up except I've noticed a real decline in gardening and snow shoveling "excuses" for tools out on the shelves. China does supply some sorry excuses for tools, thanks to our chasing business off-shore.

I would say that if I buy tools now, it is from McMaster Carr online.

Check out the Fiskars selection.

Hand operated post hole diggers normally don't impress me too much unless I'm leaning on them but theirs did. They were my son in-laws and I made sure he took them back home.:laughing:

Lee Valley tools out of Ottawa Canada has some real top notch equip. I purchased a scythe from them (mail order) and they were a pleasure to deal with, plus they sent all their catalogues and wow they have some beautiful woodworking tools plus old fashioned toys etc. It's worth it just to get the catalogues.

Lowes carries some Corona tools, but they may be "consumer" rather than "pro" quality.
