The "Take it all off" thread is fascinating. Is there a way to plate a finish back on using a similar technique?

Casswell plating sells a zinc plating kit called Copy Cad. It is a replacement for Cadmium plating. Nobody has plated bolts in cadmium since the 60's due to heavy metals. So all the fasteners these days are zinc plated and dichromated if they are gold in color.
