Very nice toy! It looks a lot better in the latest pic than the first one. Did you wax it or something?

"...I see it has the extendable lower lift links on the 3PH and it also looks like a deluxe seat. I can't tell for sure, but the steering wheel looks like it's the non-tilt type. That will save you some worry about the pneumatic cylinder getting water/ice in it and failing as some here have experienced...."

Pneumatic cylinder? I figured there was a u-joint arrangement for the tilt feature, bending the shaft somewhere in front of the "firewall". How does the pneumatic cylinder fit in there? I like the tilt feature since it allows the wheel to be positioned for my physique, although I probably will just set it once and forget it.

U-joint allows bending, but pneumatic cylinder provides position lock and damping. If you do a search of the NH Owning forum, I'm sure you can find plenty of info just by using the keyword "tilt".

Hey guys, thanks for the comments (FYI: no I didn't wax it, the imaging software alters the image when I work it to fit within the 100K limit) and also thanks for the grease gun info - I'll be purchasing one this week, will look for a lever type with both a standard and a flexible hose (and after re-reading some of your comments, I think I'll load it outside!)...

They're talking about a few light snow storms for my area over the next few days, but we are probably due for a serious "snow event" soon.

I'm figuring on a rear blade to help clear the driveway (600 feet - plus, gravel), but my bride might have a bird (no offense Bird!) if she see's me spend much more right now, so I'm trying to re-use the old plow trucks snow plow - SEE ATTACHMENT.

I grabbed some category 1 three point hitch hardware; lower link pins and clips, etc. The lower link pins were a snap, and the part of the plow frame that is attached to the plow itself has holes ready to use - abut 25 inches apart, the pins bolted up easily and the tractors' lower links were soon connected to them.

But the upper link can't just connect to the plows chain, this would only tilt the blade - not lift it. So I tried to use a couple of pieces of flat steel to make the triangular frame that appears on most 3PH attachments. After some fooling around, the plow actually lifted off the ground, but the material wasn't thick enough and my triangle now has more than three corners /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I didn't think it'd be strong enough - now I know! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'll try using angle iron next time.

Decided to pull the thing around as it was, just to see what it felt like: We only had a light dusting on the driveway today, and even the snow in the yard/field is nothing much, but it looked promising. No doubt about it - it is a beast, but I wonder if maybe the weight might actually be helpful/a good thing... Anyway, I dropped it were it wouldn't be in the way and might try again next weekend...
Bruce.

Excellent purchase Bruce, and I like those rear R1s. PoleClimber has the set up for his plow, and maybe he will post some pictures as to how he mounted his. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif The QA bucket is a good suggestion.

IH3444:

I'm liking the little extra bite I get with these rear R1s, but I do have a nagging concern over the possibility of the mismatch causing damage to the drivetrain as some here have said (when I posted the tire question a week or two ago). I do notice that it's tough to get it out of FWD when I've been driving on bare & frozen gravel for a ways, I have to put the machine into neutral and sometimes even back up a bit - I guess it's due to windup. Wonder if this is normal?

Any suggestions with the plow would be appreciated. The local hardware store had upper links for $12.40, I was thinking of picking up a pair with some threaded pins and use them to form the frame (the ball-joint ends allow the needed bends). But I think setup that way, they might twist under compression and cause other problems - not to mention cost. I'm currently leaning towards hacking up a piece of angle iron...

Bruce, sent Poleclimber a PM, I'm sure he will respond with a few pics of his setup. I was using the TC48 this weekend, and I too have to fiddle with the clutch, and rock it a bit to go between 2wd, and 4wd, as well as the ranges. maybe due to low hours, and the fluid being a bit cool. I usually keep mine in 2wd, unless I need 4 wd. I seriously don't think you will get windup unless on a very hard surface, or pavement. I believe there is enough slip for your's not to wind up from your pictures on the snow, and ice. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks, it's good to have another "datapoint" & knowing yours does the same kind of thing I'll worry less... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS: Nice looking dog, is it a Lab?

NHeuro:

I'd say you're probably right, if it's like ours is - then it's plastic...

I really like the 12x12 shuttle shift. I have many years of experience driving various standard-shift cars/trucks/motorcycles, it feels natural. And jumping from forward to reverse after getting 'a bucket full' is quick and easy. Some day I might get a hydro, but I'm very happy with what I've got right now /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

How's your machine doing? I know you had to go to a non-hydro to a new electronic geared machine (14x14 was it?) in order to get the tractor you wanted. Is it living up to your expectations? Are you happy with your purchase?
Bruce.
