pump advice

I have a small pond, its about 16ft across, about two feet deep. It is cement lined but has a layer of detritis on the bottom. I want to pump it out and keep it empty after any rains. What are my best options for pumps ?. It does not have to empty that fast as much as empty as completely as possible.

I have zero knowledge about the different types of pumps and what can handle water that may have particles in it.

A trash pump with a floating suction strainer.
It will float a couple of inches below surface and not on bottom to avoid most trash.

or an electric sumo pump how far do you have to pump it might be the part of determining factor.

A float operated pedestal sump pump may meet your needs. Picture attached.

There will be many other types.

Do you want to pump out the detrius at the bottom at the same time? Do you have electricity close by and do you want it to automatically pump after a rain? If the answer is yes,no and no get a gas powered 2 or 3" trash or semi trash pump and stir up the water before you pump it out and the detrius will come with it. As long as the solids are less than 3/4" or so they will not clog the pump -- then if you really want to get the last of the water out -- shop vac.

Where are you pumping it to? A siphon might work, and they are pretty tollerant of trash You might also be able to set it up to self start, depending on how your pond and surrounding terrain are configured.
