All excited to use my brand new Pronovost Puma 64 snowblower that I bought after last winter(wasn't planning on being unprepared ever again!!) on the 12 inches we got last weekend. To my despair after 10 minutes, the PTO shear bolt gave way and nothing was jammed or obstructed in any way. The manual is less than informative, but as far as I can tell, it calls for an 8.8 grade 1/4" by 2 1/2" long. I never heard of an 8.8 grade, but picked up a grade 8. Somewhat concerned that it might be too strong and that I shopuld go with a lower grade. Any experience with this or suggestions would be much appreciated!

You are talking about the auger not the blower, correct?
8.8 is metric so a grade 5 (3 slashes) will do nicely.
While you are there make sure you grease and rotate the connection before you reinstall the shear bolt to ensure that the mechanism does not rust & seize up.
The PTO drive uses a 1/2" (13mm) bolt, remove it and grease that also to ensure it will shear if necessary.

Not the auger but the PTO. The auger calls for a grade 2 and it held. Thanks for the info
