In another thread I finally found the 6 wire plug for a trailer towing pigtail. To that I will add the female trailer plug.
Trying to decide which is the best choice: 6 pin round or 4 pin flat. I've seen trailers with both. The only things controlled by the wires are L turn signal, R turn signal, tail lights, ground, work lights & auxillary-no brakes.

Anyone have a trailering plug set up for pulling hay wagons or equip trailers? What plug did you use? I'd like to be able to pull a hay wagon with lights & signals

We just (last weekend) switched all the trucks and trailers to a 7 way RV on everything, trailers with and without brakes and even the little single axle trailers, we also did the big wagons and the air brake trailer. That way when I back up with one of our trucks I know that I have the right plug and when we buy a new truck it will be already wired. I always unhook the 12v wire that is on all the time and put it on a switch as that is what we use to hook flood lights on some of the trailers to.

There is nothing more frustratin than lights that don't work or have the wrong plugin.
I spent $200+ in wire & plugs and a very long frustrating day.

We have a 4 pin flat on our little trailer (which needs rewiring) and will have a 4 pin flat on our haywagon setup (a set of mag mount lights and a double ended "extender" for the cord to make it long enough). Our smaller vehicles have 4 pin flat plugs and the larger ones have a 7 pin RV and a 4 pin flat plug.

The 4 pin plugs are significantly cheaper than the 7 pin ones and being as we dont have anything that needs a 7 pin plug, the 4 pin one works fine.

That's a good idea. I think everything I have is a 7way with a 4 pin flat next to it. I might as well do the tractor that way so I can use the tractor to pull the equipment trailer and still have the ability to use tail lights & signals.

Is your tractor plug like one for a semi? I think that a lot of the tractors have these and people don't realize it.

The plug I want to have would be just like a 7 way on the bumper of a pickup. That way I can pull my 12K equip trailer behind my tractor and have lights & turn signals. I will do a combination 7 way & 4 pin flat plug. The dumping hay wagon I pull also has lights & flashers.

What would be cool is if you could get the brakes to work, too. I guess my tractor would never get up enough speed to need trailer brakes.

My Kioti DK45 comes standard with the round-pin style plug which migh be OK for a tractor-trailer, but isn't likely to fit any trailer I'm going to own. Since the pin connections in the plugs are standardized, it ought to be easier to buy a pre-made plug converter, sort of like these(?):
TAP Quick-Plug Trailer Light Converter | Adapters | Northern Tool + Equipment
instead of undertaking all this rewiring by myself (I always screw up this sort of project and have to pay big bucks to get my screw-ups fixed!).

I should have probably just cut the square plug off my tractor, lengthened the existing 6 wires, and wired them into a new 7 way trailer receptical.

I kind of like using the plug and pigtail from AGCO because I can take it off and use it on another tractor if I ever sell this one.

if no brakes.. 4 pin should give you lamps.. etc. I like 6 pin as my trailers have brakes.. I usually wire up a brake controller on my tractro on the fender so i can use trailer brakes with the panic switch if needed.

Soundguy,

Any idea why there's 6 wires? There's no power to any of the wires in the bundle when tractor bakes are applied.

Two wires are always "hot" when the key is "on". Any idea why these wires would be hot? I could see 1 to charge trailer battery, but that's all I can think of.
