Welcome to TBN!

Perhaps explain what you have done so far, but with that said, have you applied power directly to the clutch? Checked for a blown fuse?

I have checked all fuses. Have verified all switches are good including the reverse switch. Have floorboards all removed to get to reverse switch. Have bypassed rio switch. Replaced ecu.applied direct power n it works. pull pto switch n I get flashing pto symbol on dash then flashing book icon. I checked charging system at 14.2 volts.

Found this on another forum:

You can get the display to show you a trouble code.

From the 2016+ X300-series tech manual:

1. Safely park the machine with the brake NOT set. Wheel chocks are highly recommended.

2. Set the machine as such:
  • Forward/reverse pedals in the neutral position
  • Brake pedal released
  • PTO switch off
  • Operator NOT in seat
3. Turn the key switch from OFF to RUN three times within three seconds. (On the third time, stop and leave the key in the RUN position. This is a very exact process - for example, if you do it four times, it doesn't work. If you leave the key in the RUN position and just see the normal screen, turn the key off, pause a few seconds, and try again.)

4. The numeric portion of the operator display rotates through the following sequence:
  • A line of dashes (- - - - - -)
  • Maximum recorded engine speed as r _ _ _ _
  • Battery voltage as b _ _ . _
  • If there are any error codes, they are displayed as E _ _ _ _ A or E _ _ _ _ S. An "A" at the end means the code is active, "S" means it has been stored previously.
5. That display sequence keeps repeating until you turn off the key.

Don't forget to put the brake back on if you usually store it with the brake on.

All of the Deere technical service manuals I have seen have a decent diagnosis section. You might have to purchase a deere technical manual to help diagnose that failure.

Lot of factors the cause the pto to quit working. How many hours on the machine? The pto clutch has a wear spec that can be check with a feeler gauge. PTO switch could be bad. Does it have a reverse override switch to allow mowing in reverse? This could also be bad. You would need a wiring diagram and pto wear spec at minimum. Good luck with the repairs.

This mower has only 137hrs on it. Have verified pto switch has power in n out to ecu. Have tried new switch also. Have bypassed rio switch even though it check out ok. I have not checked pto clutch gap but will. It does work with direct power. I'm starting to wonder if it's possible the new ecu is a defect.

Wondering why you would suspect new ecu to be bad if you have power out?

I don’t believe the X580 has adjustable air gap on the PTO clutch. I know my X540 does not.
