hello there,
i have question about PTO.
what is different PTO 540E to PTO 540?
and what are they use for.?
thank you:)

Is it 540 economy? If it is what I think it is it will allow the pto to operate at a lower engine rpm for low load applications to save fuel.

Seeing how no one is answering, I'll take a guess: On most tractors for the PTO shaft to run at 540 rpm, the motor has to run at a certain rpm; This varies from tractor to tractor and engine type, but lets say the engine has to turn 2200 rpm to make 540 Pto rpm (thus at 1100 engine= 270 pto rpm, 550 engine rpm=135 pto rpm etc...) .
Without a hydrostatic transmission you can see it becomes important to pick the right gear to determine you ground speed because you can't change your engine speed and still maintain 540 pto rpm.
What 540e does is changes this engine rpm to pto rpm ratio. So say instead of 2200 engine rpm=540 rpm, maybe now 1600engine rpm=540 pto rpm. This assumes the tractor's engine can supply the power required for the implement at 1600 rpm. If so, you can reduce fuel consumption, noise, vibration, engine wear, etc..

I believe Coby is right.

What I'll add is, due to reduced RPM, you will not see the PTO rated HP when using the e-pto setting.

The "e-pto" setting would be helpful when you do not need the full potential HP your tractor has to do something such as using a finish mower vs using a bush hog.

dear Corby,
thank you for your answer.
now im understand what if use for.

in other way , fuel consumption was the only one factor for 540/540e pto used for. anything else factor to prove it advantages to use 540/540e pto ?
im sorry , im newbie in Tractor.
thank you:):):):):)

Generally, economy pto speed is 750 rpm's... That means, your pto is running at 750 instead of normal 540 rpm's.

You can reduce engine speed a little to get back to 540 rpm's BUT, as was already said, slower engine rpm's ALSO reduces pto hp...

I don't know how your tractor is setup, but my jd will not let me Rev past 540 rpm when in the economy mode.
It is most advantageous when runninga mower to keep your blade tip speed up when you don't need the full hp at the higher engine rpm.

ALL of my tractors let ME control them, not the tractor controlling ME. lol
