PTO

The one I looked at was a '69 ford 8000. Its pto would freewheel when disengaged ( apparently no brake? )... when engaged, pulled a 15' mower fine.

Had the weird tranny?foreget what they called it.. dual power? but all ranges worked. Lookd kind funny like SOS.. as trany shifted by levers on the das as I remember..

Yup, that is in the early stage of something leaking, when the pto freewheels, no brake. But the pto will still work fine for a long time. My 7700 is to the point I need to be at mid-throttle to pull a load on the pto, so time to take it somewhere be4 spring. Either a weak pump, leaking pto, or leaking Dual Power - or several of the above. About $1000 each to fix, plus need to split for the pto or the Dual Power - guess I'll start with the pump. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm not sure if they were still using the S-o-S trannies in the big tractors like an 8000. My 7700 & TW-20 have the Dual-Power setup, where you have a high-low mode in each of 8 standard gears - sort of like an IHC TA.
