Let me preface this that I searched for 15 mins before posting this...

I have a new PTO generator. When I brought it home, I went to take the PTO apart to cut it, but when I fully extend the shaft, it stops abruptly. I can't take is apart.

There is nothing in the shaft manual about this, can I can't pry the shaft cover apart to see if its that.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in Advance!

I've seen older shafts seize, but never a sudden stop on a new shaft. Maybe there is some minor manufacturing defect? Shafts have pretty tight tolerances between the inner and outer shafts.
I agree a quick call to the dealer would be prudent, but I suspect the answer will be to apply some force... Proceed at your own risk, and good luck!

If there is a dent anywhere along the outer shaft it may permit the shaft to slide in and out to a point but prevent movement beyond a certain point. If you have the protective sleeve over the shaft you may not see the dent. Without the sleeve it may not be real obvious. By all means contact the dealer if it's a new unit but it could have been damaged in transit somewhere along the line.

If new, the dealer might exchange the shaft for a shorter/different one.

Is it possible there would be a stop on the shaft so that it doesn't come all the way apart? If there is plastic covering on the shafts, can you uncover it enough to actually see the ends? Set screw?

I would not pry or try to force the shaft apart. You could cause damage that might not be covered under warrante.

BY ALL MEANS - contact the dealer.

I suppose another way to look at it.
Say you want to cut it a foot shorter.
Then pull it all the way open, and cut your foot out of the middle.
Put it back together and start generating

I know it seems obvious but start by greasing it good.
