pto shaft removal

Irecently bought a Bolens/iseki gt174. It came with a 4 ft. brushog. when I took it off the three point the pto shaft would not come off the tractor shaft. Ireoved the locking pin and did asmall amount of pulling but no luck. Are there any tricks for removal or as they say, "GET the torches out" ? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Other than thepto issue it a nice little tractor, got us through the blizzard and has been dead solid reliable. The FEL has some issues but thats for another day. Thanks .

If you pushed in on the QD pin, it should slide right off. If it has been jammed, and sheared off part of the QD retainer pin, you may be able to pry toward the back while pecking with a hammer. If you apply heat, be sure to put a heat sink between the heated area and the tractor pto oil seal. Ken Sweet

if you are not worried about marking the paint on your pto shaft coupleing get a waterhose clamp (the stainless steel ones that screw tight) that fits over the coupling and the locking pin, screw it tight to have the pin depressed now with a 1 pound ballpeen hammer start hitting the coupler while pulling on the shaft. It may take a while but it will come off with the vibrations from the hammer and pulling. If you are worried about the paint job tie a work glove around the head of the hammer. Once you do get it off with a wire brush do a very good clean up of the spline and greese it well. It wouldnt hurt to get a tinny wire brush and do the inside of the coupler as well. Be patient it may take a while

MY bad, iforgot to mention that the locking pin is gone. I looked through the hole and can't see anything in there . I've tried a little bit of hammer action with no discerible movement or change in sound. I keep thinking I missed something. Ihaven't done anything with these things since 1960 and I'm a little rusty,possibly like the shaft.
Thanks for the idea of the heat shield, I will certainly use it if it comes to that. Thanks for all the good advice. It will get fixed,sooner or later.
