PTO shaft extension / substitution

I need some kind of PTO extension for my KK rough cut mower. It fit fine on my Kubota B7500 but since I upgraded to the L3430 it's about 3 or 4 inches to short.

The other option is to substitute a post hole digger shaft. Can it be done with damaging anything? (assuming it will fit).

When you say it's 3-4" too short, have you operated the cutter using it?

As far as using the PTO shaft from the post hole digger, shouldn't be a problem unless it's too long. You really don't want the PTO shaft bottoming out. That can damage the cutter gear box and the tractor PTO.

New shafts aren't that expensive...Northern Tool has them for about $100 or so. Why not just buy another one?

When I attach the shaft to the tractor the 2 parts of the shaft come apart and there is about a 1" gap between them.

I tried the post hole shaft today but it's to long. I was hoping for a extension or adapter to work but I guess I may need a longer pto shaft.

ROY Hit it right on!!! if you use the post digger shaft and it is too long, then it will not work right, i also suggest if in doubt, buy a new shaft and cut it to fit the KK cutter.

TISCO makes an extension that adds 4"+, and it has a spring loaded pin to attach it to the PTO shaft. Tractor supply sells one, but you have to use a bolt to attach it - if you don't have a hole in your PTO shaft it won't work.

Check with Tractorsmart - they sell it for about $20. Or your local tractor dealer should be able to get it for you - mine did.

I found the previous discussion on the subject, and it has the part number listed. Everyone who bought one (including me) thinks it works great. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
