PTO selector lever wont engage

Hi all, on my MF1529, got done blowing some leaves with the PTO driven blower( about 1.5 hrs) , shut off the control switch then moved the selector lever back to neutral.....10 minutes later decided to blow some leaves next door and cant get the selector lever to move from neutral to 540 to engage the gear drive...I haven't "forced " it yet but ive never had this trouble before...any comments/suggestions?? thanks in advance

I have a '81 JD with power reverser transmission that is hard to engage/disengage sometimes with its manual PTO lever, especially when using something with a high rotational mass like a wood chipper. Usually, it only takes a quick RPM change, then disengaging the foot clutch while trying to move the lever to let it slide into the engaged or disengaged position. So, try bumping the RPM a little to see if that works. [ worth a try ] Good luck, Jerry...
