You guys have been doing this a lot longer than I have, so to you I come.
I've recently bought a tiller (Cat2) for my Belarus (also Cat 2).
After some head scratching and manual reading:D I got it connected and adjusted, but...
The PTO shaft that came with it bottoms out when the tiller is resting on the top of the driveway. Not good. Don't want to run
it that way, obviously. Can PTO shafts be shortened? I know "how" (pretty good with a recip. saw) but not sure I should, or buy a shorter one? We're only talking two-3 inches here so it doesn't bottom out and possibly bind.
Anyone have any advice?

New pto shafts can be expensive. Around 200 and up. If it were mine, I'd shorten it.

It is not at all uncommon to have to shorten PTO shafts. You can cause real problems by having one that "bottoms out", so don't be afraid to shorten it.

Common issue.....Shorten shaft by cutting EQUAL amounts off each half. Use a sharp hacksaw and have at it!

I had to shorten the pto shaft on a bush hog once due to the same problem. Just make sure that you don't shorten it too much and you'll be fine.

Problem solved.
I found the answers on one of the other forums (attachments).
Should have looked there first, but spring has hit and I'm kind of
anxious to be at it. It's been a Loooong winter.

I'll take my trusty recipro saw and knock an inch or so off each side, leaving (more than) the minimum 6 inches overlap. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something...nice to know that shortening it's considered 'a solution'.

Thanks for all the responses! Much Obliged!
