Re: New Holland TC 45
For some the PTO lever was very hard to disengage and engage. I had to really muscle it either way. Finally I learned if I sprayed WD40 or lithium grease on the junction of the linkage (from behind the tractor, on left side) it would move in to and out of engagement much easier. I do not use the tractor that much now, just mowing 4 - 6 acres with a bushhog. Recently, after I had completed my mowing, I disengaged the PTO/mower, but it would not FULLY DISENGAGE. I turned the engine off anyway. Since then when I try to start the tractor, the engine turns over fine, however, it will not start. While holding the key in the start position trying to start the engine I noticed the PTO was actually turning as the engine was turning over (but not starting). I am sure the engine will not start because the PTO is not fully disengaged. I have even tried filing out the slot for the PTO lever, attempting to give it more room to "travel" back to disengage. That did not work; I don't know if I did not file back far enough or if that is the thing to do anyway. I'm wondering if possibly the linkage is bent (due to having to force it in and out of PTO) in the past.
Has anyone got any recommendations? It would greatly be appreciated...the grass/weeds are getting higher and higher by the day. HELP!!!
