Am I the only one who has a problem reaching the pto lever while riding the tractor? I am unable to lean over and reach the lever to either pull it up or push it down for engaging and disengaging. Has anyone come up with an "extension" handle or lever to assist in reaching the pto lever. I have to engage my pto before seating myself and disengage it after stepping down and I'm not real comfortable with performing the task in this manner. Any suggestions?

sirgknight,

How long is your PTO lever? I am a sizable guy (6',250 lbs) and I do not have trouble reaching down to engage/disengage mine. If I am sitting on the tractor; my PTO lever is just behind my left ankle. I don't even have to look down to do it; just reach down and grab.

I had the same issue on my 1810, I got very good a heal/toe that lever.

The shift knob should be near your left ankle, and easy to reach.

Maybe the rebuilder left off the shift lever (#29 in the parts diagram) ??

Yes, the lever is present and it is located behind my left ankle, but it is so low (or seat is so high) that I can't bend over and grab the lever. I can get my middle and third finger to reach half way around it but can't get a good enough grip to pull or push it completely in/out of gear. Being 5' 10" and 300 lbs, I know I need to lose weight. Being fat doesn't help in anything I do, but the problem needs a quicker remedy over losing 100 lbs. I'm seriously thinking about developing myself a handle with a Y on the end that I can attach to the end of the pto lever. This way, when I sit on the tractor I can either push the lever down with the handle of pull the lever up with the handle. It will simply stay permanently attached as a T extension. I'm still working on that idea. Thanks for the input though.

sirgknight,

Not a bad idea. Sort of like a "jockey shift" PTO lever /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Make them for motorcycles and ATVs; why not a Yanmar.

yeah, that's the idea if I can make it work.

Sounds like that would work just fine. Either that or add an extension to the existing lever and bend it upwards?
