[yes, I did read the manual] ;)

OK - new machine, PTO level only moves an inch.
Machine has mid and rear PTO.

It is not lined up all the way back [to the mark on the decal], but the rear PTO is working.

I am wondering if there is some sort of interlock, or maybe something done for shipping that I am missing.

I can't move it with the following conditions:

1) MACHINE POWERED OFF

2) MACHINE RUNNING - TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL - IDLE RPM - PARKING BRAKE ON (this is what the manual says to be proper)

3) MACHINE RUNNING - TRANSMISSION IN A/B/C - NO PARKING BRAKE - IDLE RPM - 3PT RAISED/LOWERED

Thoughts, clues, slaps ?

This isn't preventing me from using the thing, but I like to have all levers fully travel all of the time...

I have emailed the dealer.

Thanks in advance!

Suggestion from mechanic at dealer is to "bump' the PTO switch while moving lever forward to see if the gears are meshed properly.

I would have the dealer come out as it should be under warranty if its the new 3r series. It almost sounds like it is connected to something it shouldn't be. With our 5083e the 540e/540 can be a pain to engage at times. Just fiddle around with it and see if there is a trick to it.

Yep, new machine - not a week old, all covered under warranty.

The dealer took it back to their shop, they found the PTO shaft's snap ring wasn't in the groove, allowing the gears to slide.

Well at least you know you have a good dealer and that they will stand behind their product. Hope that's just the only problems you'll have with it, but I'm sure you won't have any more. None of our John Deere equipment has ever let us down.

Yep, I do have a good dealer [this is my 3rd machine from them], we are a small rural county, so if you didn't have good service - you would starve in short order.

The only other time I needed them was on the 4100, the "fused link" to the starter burnt out. Mechanic said to cut the insulation back (he showed me exactly what I was looking for on one in their store) and twist the ends together.
That worked, and I also bought a replacement link. No issues since. [4100 was sold the week I bought the 3046r/cab]

If you are in the STL or southern IL area, I recommend Nobbe company. [pronounced No Bee]
