I have a 1958 i think ford 941, the pto seal is leaking and i have a few questions. I replaced the fluid last year in the tranny and rear axle,
should i drain it before hand or can i elevate the tractor with minimum loss? Can i pull out the PTO by hand or do i need a come along?
Should i leave the PTO engaged before removal? Should i replace the bearings while I'm at it?

Thanks for all the info

Have not done that particular job, If I were to do it on my ford 1700 then I would back it up the "gorilla ramp" I have that I use to change oil, I leave the tractor in gear, emergency brake engaged and chock both front wheels and then start the work on removing PTO final shaft retaining ??? ring and replace the seal and gasket. you cannot hurt the transmission or diffy for the duration of the work. I doubt if you lose any oil or it will be minimal. Make sure that tractor has plenty of room to go forward without hitting anything, such as barn or garage door and in case of an emergency.
