I just bought a Prairie Dog Backhoe that came with the PTO pump and Reservoir via an auction. Manuals are supposed to be in the mail. The hoe is recommended for tractors with 20-40 HP. Does the PTO pump really require 20+HP to be effective, or is the 20-40 HP only necessary when using the tractor hydraulics? The reason for asking is that I'm thinking of mounting the hoe onto my L185 as a "permanent" install, but this only has 15 PTO HP. This would leave the L225 available for the rest of my attachments.

Thanks,

Dave

I would expect you would be alright. I have an L1801DT with a backhoe on it plumbed off tractor hydraulics that works good(would prefer pto pump) . If you do not have a FEL on the tractor you might want to rethink it. Also what is the weight of the backhoe, L185 manual says 800#'s with a subframe.

Thanks. Both the L185 and L225 have Kubota FELs; an L1200 and an L1700, respectively. As to weight, I'll know more after I get the manual for the Praire Dog, but it may be > 900#. Sounds like that could (will) be an issue. By the way, I'll have to make a subframe assembly since one doesn't seem to be commercially available for my older Kubotas.
