Question - If a PTO generator is hooked up and running, the operator gets off the seat the PTO/ tractor shuts off. How would you bypass the seat safety switch so the generator can operate?

It's in your manual.I do it all the time for my PTO generator.I have a L4240 HSTC as you do.I would not jumper out the seat switch.
On my 4240 I made a momentary switch in the dash that when pushed bypasses all the safety switches. It allows me to get up and flip the switch forward and if I want to move the tractor slightly when standing next to it I can push the button and operate the hst pedal by hand.
