pto gear replacement

I have a chance to pick up a1985 model 2501D in good shape with a front end loader. Tractor looks and runs good but is going to have to have a gear replaced on pto shaft. Gear is about 400.00 and I plan on doing the work myself. Has anyone done this job and if so how hard is it. I can get tractor for about 2300.00 with 5ft hog and other imp. Is it worth it or should I pass ? This is my first post. Thanks for response.

Have you had the top off the trans.if it brike a gear there could be other damage
