Thanks everyone. What is IOW?
I a used to have a JD GT235 and you had to engage the deck at max throttle or it would kill the engine every time. It did have the larger deck, but still....
I've been using a BX2230 for more than 10 years. I have always engaged the mower deck at idle, and it easily puts the blades in motion without struggling... just a little puff of black smoke and the mower starts immediately. Other implements such as a post hole auger and fertilizer spreader load the engine even less than that, so I've never felt any concern that any of those were overtaxing the engine. If you've got an attachment that works the engine more to get it turning - a rotary cutter would be a good example - you'd want to rev the engine just enough so it doesn't bog or struggle to get the attachment turning. The pto engagement on the BX2230 cannot be feathered... it's either on or off, so you do want enough rpms.
