PTO driveshaft

Hey, everybody. New to this site and new to tractors. But here's what I need to know right now. I picked up a 5' disc and a flail mower for a song at a local auction. Both need very minor repairs. My bush-hog driveshaft is too long for the flail mower. How are new driveshafts measured? From extreme end to extreme end? I measured 33.5 inches between the ends of the PTO shafts. What do I need to buy?

I take it by your question that the flail mower did not have a PTO shaft?
