Looks good. But, I see yours too is with 6" max. capacity. Why? To my statistical analysis, 97% of woods people are chipping are less than 3" woods/branches. For 3" of woods, is it really to make this chipper sp heavy? Yours is 900 lbs. If it were designed for 3", its weight would be about 500 lbs only and the speed would be much lower than 1450 rpm. Everybodys making 6". Without thinking, they are copying each others?

nomad,

Yes, ours is rated at 6" max. Are you likely to ever run it at max demand, probably not. However, let's consider this, if you strip all the twigs, leaves, etc. off a 3" dia. branch, and only run the branch through, then you'll be running 3" dia. of material through the machine. How often are you going to spend the time to remove all the "extras" off a limb before sending it through? More often than not, you'll throw the branches with twigs, leaves, etc. through the machine at one time. Add all this together and you'll likely have 3.5-4" of material. But as I stated earlier, we designed and engineered ours to handle 6" MAX. There are also other chippers with higher and lower ratings.

snoboy,

I sent you a PM but retail price on the BM6-800 is $6110. (US)

The MacKissic TPH-122 does 3". It weighs only 160#. It's actually much lighter weight than my old TroyBilt Tomahawk that struggled to do 1 1/2" without stalling. Built almost identical to it but uses lighter weight housing but has a huge flywheel. MUCH quieter.

I use a Wallenstien 6in chipper.I actually chip a lot of 6in debris. It has a large disc,4 blades, comes with an extra blade as well. Its not hydro or auto feed but it pulls the wood in fast and i push the twiggy stuff in with a push stick.

Wallenstien is Canadian and there are dealers all over the west coast it runs about $1,800-2,100.
unless your chipping commercially you most likely don't "NEED" to have hydro feed or spend Mucho Grande on a chipper. Wallenstein also makes a hydro i believe. MY buddy runs a Bear Cat happily.

I to looked at the china chippers but was more concerned about its construction..and the fact i try to stray away from Chinese tools that are going to be grinding chipping, chomping things.

Although the thread does say Chinese chippers /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As long as you are looking at PTO chippers, Don't get anything rated at less then 5-6"
I am not familiar with your tractor so I don't know the PTO HP but chippers will test your power /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I have a few chippers.
I started with a TroyBilt 8hp Tomahawk and ran that into the ground but it was really only good for shredding small stuff.
I got a 10hp MTD for shredding leaves and it does a great job of that. Once again it is a poor chipper though.
After logging part of my property, I decided I needed a real chipper.

I got a PTO BearCat 72854 with the hydraulic feed and speed control.
This is an 8" chipper and it weights about 1300lbs. I feed it with a 55 PTO hp tractor (JD 2355).
I just put small trees directly into it. The hydro feed crushes the branches as they go.
I LOVE the hydrualic feed. It makes it so much safer and easier. Plus since you control the feed rate, you also control the chip size.
Plus you can stop and reverse the feed, which is both a safety feature and will backout anything that is binding.
The horizontal feed is great, no lifting the wood except a couple of feet. It doesn't pull the branches out of your hand, it just accepts them, very politely.

I can feed it a 30-40' tree and just walk away and get the next one as it is processing the first tree.
I have used this chipper for a few years now and love it. There are periods of the year where feeding the chipper is a weekend ritual here.

Buy the best you can, the heaviest you can and if at all possible get a hydro feed. Remember weight is your friend. it means it has a heavy flywheel and is made of thick metal.
The heavier the chipper, for a given rating, the less strain is passed on to your tractor.
Of course your tractor needs to be able to safely move it!

just my cut :p

The Jinma does up to 6" and can be run off a 25 hp tractor. Got a friend who bought one, and this is the tractor size he runs it with.

Befco, I'll speak their minds of folks here.
$6110? Isn't this too incompetitive price comparing with the similar chippers? One of my factories just built building and powder painting system. If you are interested in, this chipper can be made here for a very reasonable price. Win-win-win. Everybody wins.

Actually, That's very compeitive price for a commerical quality chipper with a hydro feed. Most of the European brands start at $6000 and go to $10,000 to $12,000 depending on size and options.

I've used my DR chipper for three years with very good results. It isn't as heavy as some of the models out ther but does a good job chipping in the 4 inch range.
