PTO comes out of gear

Hello, I am new to tractors and especialy Yanmar. I have a 1510d, and when I am mowing, the PTO lever comes out of 1 (540) and slips into nuetral.
Anyone have any idea why this could happen? If I strap it down with a tarp strap it doesn't come out. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appriciated!

Possibly it could be out of adjustment and not going into gear all the way.

I guess that nobody has ever had this happen, I bought this tractor from an individual, and no one around here has ever worked on Yanmar tractors that I can find. Thats why I was hoping someone on here could give me a suggestion.

I've never had that happen either but I had a 1510D that the powershift lever wouldn't stay in gear unless held. I took it apart from the top and adjusted it where the lever would go all the way in gear and it stayed from then on. You can look at a parts manual and tell if there is an adjustment or just follow the lever to where it attaches and see if it's adjustable.

I guess I was wondering if it was ever actually engaging in the first place. It doesn't look like fun to get into either. I hope it's just the lever that needs adjusted. I have a 1510D too so I asked a neighbor on your behalf since he was looking at mine sitting in front of him. Without getting in there he didn't think he could answer your question. I think that is the problem, why you aren't getting an answer. It could probably be a couple different things. Good luck and hope you find the solution soon.

Took a quick look at Hoye's diagram. If I am looking at it right there appears to be a ball driven by a spring that may ride on the shift lever. If the spring is rusted or the ball does not float then there is nothing to lock the shifter. thats my best shot in the dark..

I agree that it's helpful; it comes straight out of the parts book, a copy of which we provide each of our tractor customers. Don't understand why other sellers don't, as it's helpful with repairs, and it makes ordering parts so much easier (it has part numbers for each item in the diagrams).

That would be nice if everyone gave a parts book too. They cost around $40 so I figured well, I can look at it online for free. I got an owner's manual with mine, which is nice, but I would have liked the parts book also.
