PTO clutch rattle

Hi, I have a 2010 T1520 35 HP diesel. Approx 150 hrs on it. I have noticed a very loud (to me anyway) rattle when the PTO clutch pedal is not depressed. The noise goes away when you depress the pedal. So basically when I disengage the clutch plates (depressing the pedal) the rattle stops, if I engage the clutch to run a mower off the PTO, the clutch rattles. The Dealer says 'they all do it' which doesn't fly with me. New ones don't and this has gotten louder over time. Trying to see if anyone else has had similar issues or if anyone has a resolution. By the way it is a hydro so I am not talking about the gear clutch just the PTO clutch.

Sorry ur having noise problems.I purchased a new t1520 w engine noise.have had lots of trouble getting it fixed.now my gear modle is making noise when I step on clutch.I went to other dealers and listened to other tractors to find my does sound bad.nh would only say its normal.I would never recomend a nh to anyone.good luck.

How much free play in the pedal do you have before the rattle stops? Does the rattle stop just when you first depress the pedal, feel the pedal engaging the clutch, or when you have it fully depressed? I'd bet that you have nothing more than free play in the pedal and linkage that is now broken in, loosened, and is rattling a bit. This can be irritating, but you might be able to take out a tiny bit of slack to reduce the problem.

When the throwout bearing contacts the fingers on the pressure plate, all slack is taken up and the rattle goes away. You DO NOT want to adjust the clutch pedal to take out all the slack because your throwout bearing will keep contact with the pressure plate fingers all the time and produce early failure. When the tractor was new, everything was tight, but I'd look for a way to stop the rattle other than adjusting the clutch unless you can do it with a small adjustment that doesn't produce throwout bearing contact.
