Well, I'm on my fourth PTO Clutch and I really need help to make sure this one lasts.
I believe my clutch failures are actually a result of the Ground Drive Pulley / Engine Pully upper collar going to pieces.
So the question is what is causing the upper collar of the pulley to go to pieces.
I know the clutch and collar are being compressed on the shaft by the mounting bolt.
The upper collar contacts the radius of the engine shaft, and under the pressure, just keeps failing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
The Warner Electric installation guides for the PTO Clutch say that you should chamfer the pulley collar end to clear the radius on the engine shaft, but that just seems to me would weaken the collar even more with the outward pressure just causing another failure. The collar is only about 1/8" thick while the radius on the shaft is probably close to 1/4". So I don't see how chamfering the collar would be a good thing.
