I've got a 2004 Case/IH DX33 (think of it as a red TC33DA)

When running the PTO, I get a "chattering" that's consistent with the RPM of the engine. It's not the implement or the shaft as it does it with a number of different implements that I've used. It's sometimes hard to engage also. I'll push the clutch in, try to engage it, and it won't go. I'll release the clutch, let things spin for a second, then try it again. Sometimes, it takes a few tries.

With this chattering, under a heavy load, it will get worse and eventually kick the PTO out of gear. Adjustment is well within the range.

Any thoughts or other input?

I would drain a little oil out of your reservoir at the lowest drain point and look for metal shavings. It sure sounds like you have a bearing on it's last leg. Of course, broken teeth can also cause chattering and associated vibration, plus cracked teeth tend to cause a "click, click, click" sound. If it only does it with the PTO engaged, then the rest of your transmission may be good. I'd be concerned that something might break and take out part of the transmission too. Unfortunately, this is probably right in the middle of the season when you need your tractor. That's just when these thing seem to always happen.:(
