PTO/Blade Engagement Cable

I have a Bolens (MTD) lawn tractor, model 13AM762F765, and have replaced the pto cable, part 946-04173E, three times in one year. Cable breaks at same spot where it attaches to the pto engagement handle. Seems to be a very poor design. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a better replacement cable out there?

Likely the mechanism on the deck is requiring more effort than it should. They did upgrade the cable ends on the newer cables and they attach to the arm via a bolt. 946-05124a is a common one.
