Instead of spending $500.00 plus on a new Deutz alternator imported from germany, I decided to retrofit a "one wire" chev. unit to the contraption.

I used a ford 300 six cyclinder alternator bracket for the lower and made the upper bracket. I removed the Deutz idler pulley, and used the factory bolts for the lower bracket. I had to modify the hood a little for this set up. ;)

I'll make a removable cover for the cut out. The u can check th eoil without lifting that heavy hood all the time.

I think you have solved the alternator problem!:) At the same time, you now have plenty of capacity for additional lights, 12 volt attachments, (seeders) ect. :p Nice job, I think we will see more of this mod.

What is the amperage on the STOCK 1850 alternator? For that matter, how do the generators stack up over the entire lineup?

The Robin 22 HP is 15 amps.

I looked at the engine website, the 2011 engine series SEEMS to have a 55-60 amp alternator. I don't know if this is the right engine or not--I don't have an 1850---I wish! I had thought the capacity was less than that. However, now that we have a prototype installation, just select the GM (or other) capacity alternator you need.:D

We finished hooking it up.

The voltage meter reads a steady 14 volts, the way it used to. So it seems to have fixed it.

But theres a strange side affect. With the new alt. unhooked, the fuel solenoid shuts off by the switch as it should; but with the alt. hooked and running, the fuel shut off doesn;t cut off, and the keys off alll electrical cuts off, except the fuel solenoid...so I have to manually shut off th fuel to stop it.

I think its some kind of ground loop. But at least its running good now.

It appears that you are feeding the plus side of the fuel solenoid with 12 volts, when running. You just might have to rewire the fuel solenoid with a separate switch.
