Spotted this fellow, what a beauty. I did post him on the northwest, but figured photos is where he belonged.

Nice photo. We have them in parts of Pa. They can be very destructive to corn fields. There is a drawing to hunt them and it's almost like winning the lottery if you're lucky enough to have your name pulled.

Thanks for sharing. We have a draw hunt here as well. It's on the Wichita Moutain Wildlife Refuge and it's a once in a lifetime draw. Not that they have huge elk, they're pretty nice but once you get drawn you can't put back in for it.

You can get a license here each year and put in for a cow tag. The last time I went hunting here, about 10 yrs ago, I was sitting on a ridge watching over a nice area. Along came a nice herd, about 10 cows and a spike. It was a big foggy, but was clear enough for a good shot. It was a 3pt or better area, so I was just intent on watching them feed. I thought the horns on the spike were a bit odd and misshapen and was watching him feed.

He turned his head away from me and wala, they were the inside eyeguards of a very nice bull.
THEY HAD CUT HIS HORNS OFF. The white of his horns was about 2 plus inches across where they made the cut. Haven't bought a license in Wa since.

Two questions:
Who?
Why?

Game department. I guess they did it for breeding purposes.

I confronted a game warden and he said we dont' do that. I told him he was a standup liar and he confessed, yes we do that when we move animals. I have never heard of them bringing them into this area, they are usually taking them out to other parts of the country.

Thanks. That makes sense especially if you have to transport the animal. Safer for all concerned.
