Justin Beiber is now PM? ;)
The other Justin. Trudeau.

I had a prostate biopsy done 11 years ago in Oshawa,ON. Now any of you that know the 'back' way to North Bay, ON will know how far it is between towns. I swear that I stopped in every little burg and in between to P. Every 5 minutes I was on the side of the road, pissing. It took about two months before I could hold my water for any length of time. I still, 11 years later can't hold 'it' for an hour or so like I used to.

Guess the "procedure" is "one of those things". Women get to get that regular "Maytag" wringer thing top-side plus have to "assume the position" with feet in the air. We get a quick finger once a year. We share the need for the regular colonoscopies so that's a tie. The PSA test is not perfect yet but I think it is getting closer.

At least one thing to look forward to. After a certain age (?75?) they quit giving the PSA - no point as if you have cancer there, something else will get you before the cancer does, it is a very slow growing one.

colonoscopy, at my last one just before they anesthetized, I said "if you see something down there you haven't seen before I DO NOT want to know about it." Got a good laugh just as I was fading out.

Not necessarily, not all prostate cancers are the slow growing variety, mine was a faster growing version, caught early at age 52!

Just so all of you reading have an idea what the PSA test means I'm going to TRY and explain it like it was explained to me.

The number on the test does not matter! The rate of change between tests is what they look at. I have a brother in law who will test 2.0 one year and in the teens the next, yes I mean as high as 13. They will do a biopsy and find nothing. Last year they did the biopsy using ultrasound and still nothing. Every male member of his extended family on his father's side has had prostate cancer. On the other hand another brother in law was found to be malignant at 2.5. His number had changed (hopefully I remember the numbers right) from 1.0 to 2.0 over a year so the Urologist had him come back in six months and it was up to 2.5. They did the biopsy and he had to have the poison rice inserted.

I have another friend who tests in the 6.0 range every single time. They did a biopsy on him the first time but now only watch for increasing numbers. He gets a PSA test at least every six months.

The point I am trying to make is that all men over 45 need to have a PSA test so the doctors will have a baseline to compare to. If caught early MOST prostate cancers can be treated by implanting the radioactive seeds and no other action will be needed.

It is a simple blood test so PLEASE everyone, get the test.

After age 70 Medicare will not pay for a colonoscopy unless there are positive other indications of polyps are rectal/colon cancer; or so says my doctor when I wanted one routinely as polyps run in my family (not not a reason anymore).

Where about's in Northern Ontario (or is it "aboots")? I've fished in northern Ontario just south of Pickle Lake (fished northern Sask also) and it is "remote" (many people don't realize that Canada's relatively small population mostly lives within 100 miles of the US border). Who provides medical care up there? Just wondering.

I am just outside North Bay. But I work in the Thunder Bay/Pickle Lake area. from my house to Pickle Lake is about 1,000 miles.
Ontario Health Insurance Plan does the medical thing. Airlift to either Winnipeg,MB or Thunder Bay,ON
