I took a test drive on a JD 2210 today.

The tractor has a tachometer, but no foldable rops or R4 tires. The R1's on it were pretty wimpy and did not seem to scuff up the turf when sharp turns were made so everything is still ok.

I got a quote for the tractor, loader, 62" mmm and rear weight bracket for $13,000 delivered.

I think I like it more than the BX 2200 but the earliest delivery date is over a month away. Deere also said that they do not offer a hoe, and that the Kubota should not offer one either because it will overheat the engine as their testing has shown.

Kubota seemed to have more of a program for their subcompact tractor line including available attachments.

Scott from Power Trac also called today to see if I made up my mind yet...

The shopping saga continues.

They are in stock at alot of dealers here Dave and probably for better prices. If you're up for the drive to Iowa and don't want to wait for one PM me and I can give you the name of a few dealers.

Dave,

Depending on what you plan on doing, you may want to look at the JD 4010. Less HP than the 2210 (18.5 vs 23), but more capacity with the FEL and 3 Point (also comes with folding ROPs).

No back hoe options on the 4010 either so if that's important I'd go orange.

Good Luck

Forgot to mention--the 4010 should be priced close to the 2210.

As I'm writing this post I thinking to myself. With the 4010, 4110 and the 2210--how can JD be selling any of the X series tractors. Granted it may be the ultimate lawn/garden tractor, but you can get a lot more tractor for the same $.

Also the 790 is in the same price range, another thing you might want to check out.

Hi Bob,

I also test drove a 4010 with mmm while at the dealership.

It was not a positive experience /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif!

It was 80 degrees outside. When the engine started, it smoked for quite a long time. The mmm when raised still did not clear the ground totally, and looked like a real bugger to remove.

My dealer thought they were going to discontinue this model very shortly due to quality problems. As of now, I am staying far away from any 4010's.

Regards,

The Kubota with a loader is a BX22. I looked at those also. Pretty pricey for as small of BH. I figured I would buy the tractor I wanted, then rent a BH if I needed that. How often would you use one??
I would say if it were a lot, probabaly ought to look at something a little more beefy.
I have R1's on mine and do not experience any lawn scuffing. I was surpised. My tire guy(commercial construction) said if it were a problem they could cut the edges off the lugs on the front tires to take care of that.
You are close to the price I paid, I assume rear weight bracket you are talking ballast box?

Oh and if you really want a backhoe, check out the MF 2310. It is a TLB combo just like the BX22 is. They might be a little hard to find right now (they are brand new), but they are very comparable pricewise to the BX22 and you do get a couple more HP and a little more capable BH if I remember right.

Dave,

Very surprised about your experience with the 4010. I've not had one problem with mine--just over 70 hours on it. I've also not heard of any plans to discontinue, but I don't talk to my dealer on a real regular basis. Mine has run in extreme cold and hot conditions without issue.

The MMM is about a 5/10 minute operation. When properly installed, it raises about as high as many of the CUT's MMM's. I think raised height is a general complaint about many MMM's on CUTs.

Anyone elso out there have a report on their 4010. Strange comment from a dealer--but that's nothing new.

Not trying to convince you to re-visit the 4010, but your dealership experience and my real life experience (heavy use of 5 foot boxblade and FEL in addition to mowing) are completely opposite.

Yooper Dave,

I can't say enough good things about my 4010. No performance or quality issues with 12 Hrs. in 3 weeks use.

My 54" MMM is about 4 1/2" off the ground when raised which I haven't found to be a problem even when digging into a hill side with the FEL.

Both JD dealers I talked to prior to my purchased tried to up-sell me to the 4110, but I attributed this to lower profit margines on the 4010. It's my experience the entry product in a given platform, in this case small chassie CUT's, is priced to attact the buyer in a GOOD, BETTER, BEST product line-up with margins increasing up the scale.

I think it's likely they come off of the same production line as they share most components. Of course, the engines being different could be a factor.
