Propane weed burner

I'm looking for someone that has had experience with a weed burner. Is this effective or is a weed killer better. I have a gravel driveway that is always getting weeds to grow in it. I think it might be cheaper to burn them?

Purchased one last year for in between the rows of potatoes. It works well if the weeds are very small. On larger weeds it takes quite a bit of time and propane.

Weeds and clover down in the gravel is what I will use it for. Anything larger will be mowed first or weedeated

As long as you want to do just the small weeds, two to three inches, anything larger takes to much time, even as hot as the torch gets. Think mine is a 150,000 BTU model. Does not take long to go through a 20# propane tank.

On the larger ones, that you have mowed, ignore the stems and it will be fine.

I have one hanging on the wall in the pole barn. It's better used for starting wood fires than killing weeds. The problem is that you kill the tops not the roots so it seems to grow back with a vengeance. Ever try to cut the top of a dandelion in your yard without digging out the root? You know what happens......

I agree with Pineridge -- mine makes an excellent starter for bonfires. As far as burning live weeds it isn't very good for the reasons mentioned above: takes a LONG time and doesn't kill the root.

I use RoundUp first, then when the weeds are dead and brown and dry the weed burner quickly makes short work of them.
