Info from the Ag press. Propane supplies are down 20% from a year ago. If you have any empty tanks, get them filled now. It may be a mild winter, with no shortages, or the supply chain may crumble again and leave you in the cold. Simple supply and demand indicates prices are going to go up.

Dang, someone needs to tell my local place. Just filled a 100# tank a week or two back, that hurt.

The best time to buy propane is March when the demand is lowest. Too late to get a good price now. The hurricane didn't help with gasoline/diesel either. Cost me $20 more to fill my truck on Monday.

We usually buy in July.. my wife called around and got the best price was $1.80 and she figured maybe it would drop. I just saw this post and thought $%#!@% and it's now $2.20 and I need to buy a thousand gallons!

Pre-buy last month. 1000 gal @ $1.59/gal....last year was $1.29.

I have about 600 gal in the tanks and could make that last all winter if I had to.

I also have about 600 gal and I could easily get by via burning wood if I need to, but I think I'll fill up and then burn as much wood as I can and see if we can conserve to have a lower bill next year, since the way things are looking we're not going to get cheap propane next year either...

Yeah, all those millions of people who read TBN are going to go out and bring down civilization!

You must be young. A winter fuel shortage is not that uncommon in recent history. These are rural people, who know how to take care of themselves through a bad winter. It's September. There is plenty of time before the Great Clueless wake up.

Personally, I have two oak trees cut and split that need to be moved into the wood shed. I have three Aladdins, three LED camp lanterns, an antique 1" wick Dietz kerosene lantern for the porch light, and a battery backup for our FIOS router. SWL if necessary.

It's not going to crash the system if some of us fill empty tanks. Remember, the best generator fuel is the one you have. It won't go bad.

Depending on where you are geographically may make a big difference in how much you are going to pay. The basis price Mt B or Conway is higher currently for wet barrels ( September ) than for Jan 2022

That's actually a civic service. Typical shortages are related to transportation problems in times of bad weather. There's plenty of propane at the refineries, but not in the field. Topping off now reduces demand later in the year when it's critical and levels off the price run-up. You not only did a good thing for you and yours, you helped out the stupid neighbor who waits until January to call for a refill.

Being prepared is a mindset. Where I live, it can get damn cold. Had the diesel fuel in my truck gel one year. Buying before prices get stupid is smart...but you go ahead and chill. In my experience, must people who think they are cooolll are not very bright.

Don't minimize the impact of a few people overreacting. Every bank run started with a few people getting nervous. Panic spreads, even from sites like this.

This is my once per year fill up that runs me threw until spring/summer of next year so yes IT IS my civic duty to keep my family WARM.

I’m very happy that my contractor just completed my natural gas pipeline (1500’) and home conversion from propane appliances to natural gas. I sold my 500 gallon tank and happily watched it go down the road on a truck.

I like having a year and a half's worth of propane on hand.

Should make a really cool jet too if we have a crazy wildfire here... Bonus!
