My Husqvarna 2148 is doing a lot of sputtering. I pulled it out of the garage after a long winter...put new spark plugs in it... New gas...and new fuel and air filters. It only wants to run with the choke on though. Power seems weak too...any thoughts?

If it was stored with fuel in it, you could have a stuck float in the carb. New fuel will not cure this ... you may need some type of cleaner run through to clean the varnish out.

Others may have other ideas.

Yes if any old fuel that didn't get burned out completely may have hardened up in there. Can you get at the float or diaphragm easily? Since you have fresh fuel in maybe do like I have done and use some starter fluid to get it to turn over and run enough to pull some fresh fuel through the system. Just don't use too much starting fluid. Also check air filter for mold and being clogged. I just started Dad's lawn mower after it was having problems running. The air filter had mold from old grass that was left on it over the winter. Another source of fun and games is the linkage to the governors sometimes getting locked up. Spray the linkage off with carb cleaner or WD40

Open the low and high speed jets just a little.[remember how much] Then run saw and hope things clear up. Getting a load on it may also help. If it runs smoother return jets to original setting.:)

Are you using a High Octane Gasoline in the fuel mix?

If it don't work ????:(

Well I swapped fuel filters, spark plugs, high octane fuel, air filters and it seemed to work for a while then all of the sudden lost power. Craziest thing. I can't easily get to the carbuerator so I may have to take it to the shop... Darn

Just for kicks and grins pull out the plug and pull on the cord where it is dark enough that you can see the spark when it is cold. Then go out and run it until it looses power. Pull out the plug to and try the visual again with the plug and see if it appears to be weaker. You might have a bad ignition module.

I know this is late but I thought I'd post this just the same. I ended up taking my Huskie to a small engine repair place nearby (before I saw the last post, sorry). After loading it up on the oversized trailer and carting it across town, I dropped it off. Two weeks later, they got to my mower and it started right up. And it ran and ran and ran. No problems. At my request, they let it run some more: for two hours! Bah!

It's run just fine all summer now.

So, after a long summer, of working just fine, my mower is back to it's old tricks. I took it to the shop months ago and of course, it worked fine for them. I paid a $30 service fee and got nothing for it.

This time I took video of what my mower is doing. Please take a look and give me your input.

Carb is clogged, float is sticking. If it only runs with a choke it suggests gunk in carb. I have had the pilot tube get gummed up. That is the tube from the main jet at the bottom of the carb up to where the air flows in to the engine. I soak the carb after disassembling in laquer thinner for a few hours and blow it out. Or it could just have crud in the bottom of the fuel bowl clogging up the main jet. Wild guessing as I am telling stories about other engines but most carbs work the same way.
