Over time the operation of the rear remotes has been getting rougher and rougher to work. This evening, I took some of the plastic off, and disconnected both ends of the cables. Found the problem is with the cables, not a bind on either end.

SO...how can I lube these, or can I? I stopped short of removing them, since getting to the nuts holding the cables is down in there....and on the rear remotes I've got a diverter valve that is a bit in the way. But, because of other issues I've had, I have had the rear fender off, and it exposes a lot of this. BUT before I do that, want to know if there is a way to lube these without taking them off, and if I do get them off, how to lube them.

This is on a M7040.

I think that they are disposable with age/use. I have a friend that is replacing his loader cables (M7040 also). Lubricating, if you can, might just attract dust and .....
This is just a guess on your (and my) tractors JC but I do know that other "control cables", on other equipment is just a service item that needs to be replaced periodically, dust caps crack, liners wear, etc. I don't know the parts price, but all of them, loader & remotes look like no fun to replace.

Dry lube like silicon or graphite doesn't attract dirt.

Small things that flex a lot are prone to wearing out though.

Let us know how it works out. I'm sure many of us will face this eventually.

The cable thingy did not work, cable to big. It's made for motorcycle/ arv type cables. I had to modify it to even get the cable into it, should have sent back.

I rehooked everything, got mowing i need to do. I'm going to have to take that right rear fender off, and take the cables out to see if i can geavity lube them. They have definite roughness to them. I'll revisit this later in a month or so.
