Problem with right side cut on murray 42\"

Howdy All,

I had the priviledge of finding this place on the web. I currently have a Murray 42" (2 Blade) thats about 6.5 years old and still runs quit well, but doesn't cut that great. Anyway, my problem is mainly on the right side it seems the blade is not cutting as well and leaves a trail of grass. I have replaced the deck belt, deck /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifbelt tension spring, PTO handle (of course that broke after I put on a new belt), and blades, which I have sharpened very recently. The deck spindles are greased and move very freely. I didn't know if the blade adapters, might be the cause, so I planned on ordering a new set tomorrow. Right now I tell everyone I have a 16.5hp 21" riding mower, but its killing my time and grasses per gallon.

Thanks,
Jim

I admit you're problem has me stumped unless the right side blade is on upside down so it's cutting with the back of the blade -- that seems unlikely.

Still, welcome to TBN,
Cliff

I wish it was upside down at this point. Thanks for the Welcome.

When you spin the blades by hand, do the tips of each blade cross the same 'level' point, and do the tips of two adjacent blades cross at the same level? This will indicate a bent blade, or a bent shaft and/or bearing problem.

Welcome to the forum.

edit
Be sure to check the air pressure in the tires too. They can get low and have a big impact on level decks.

Jim,

The "trail of grass" that it is leaving; is it a trail of cut grass or uncut? I have a 42" Murray as well. It is on its last leg and look to purchase a ZT first of next year.

Or the deck bent where the spindle bolts on, especially if the deck has been used as a step. Blade is not on upside down is it ?

The tire pressure is good all around, funny you should mention that. I had to replace the front this spring, the old ones were like drag slicks. I have to check the blade level at tips. I didn't think of a bent spindle. That may be my problem. I have never hit anything that major, but it could have been stressed in the past and just became more apparent over time.

Re: Problem with right side cut on murray 42\"

Well I decided to completely tear apart the deck, I cleaned and greased the spindles again, replaced the pulleys, new adaptors, and new blades (even though other set only had a couple of cuts) Put everything back together and Voila! no more problem, guess it just needed more attention from me. Thanks all for help.
