PROBLEM WITH JD 3010 INJECTOR PUMP

HI. I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A 3010 DIESEL INJECTOR PUMP. 1ST TIME IN 15 YEARS. ITS BEEN LOOSING POWER SLOWLY THIS YEAR AND FOR THE LAST MONTH IT WONT IDLE, ONLY RUN FROM A QUARTER THROTTLE AND UP. YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHILE ROUND BALEING IT KEPT LOOSING POWER AND THEN JUST FELL ON ITS NOSE. WOULDNT RUN AT ALL. IT HAS FUEL DELIVERING TO THE PUMP. THERE IS A SMALL BOLT IN THE SIDE OF THE HOUSING IF YOU CRACK IT LOOSE IT RUNS LIKE NORMAL BUT DUMPS FUEL LIKE CRAZY AROUND THE BOLT.

Check that your return line is not plugged:thumbsup:

I would find a local injector pump service and ask if you pull the pump and bring it in if they can rebuild it while you wait. Probably the best option you will have. Last time I did this I had to wait about an hour for it.

I agree with checking the return line too.

I PULLED IT OFF AND TOOK IT APART AS BEST I COULD, FOUND LOTS OF BLACK PLASTIC PIECES IN THE SIDE CHAMBER. CLEANED IT OUT BEST I COULD. PUT IT BACK ON BUT I HAVE TO GET A FITTING TOMORROW, ONE CRACKED. IM NOT READY TO TAKE IT TO SOMEONE YET AND HAVE THEM MESS IT UP WORSE THAN IT IS, I KNOW SOMETHING NOT RIGHT WITH THEM PIECES IN THERE! BUT I DONT HAVE MUCH LUCK WITH PROFESSIONALS!! I THINK IT GOT SOME OF THAT STUFF UNDER THE THROTTLE ADVANCE PLATE AND MABY IN A PORT. THANKS GUYS.

it will have to come off to be rebuilt. those black pieces are part of a rubber flex ring inside the pump.it will only get worse.

Good luck with that!

I will work on just about anything else but the injector pump. This is one place where it pays to use a professional. Most dealers use an outside repair service for their injector pumps too. Very important that it is set up correctly.

he will have to take it to a shop that rebuilds pumps. it will need a new flex ring & will have to be calibrated. i have had the pump on my 4020 rebuilt twice in the last 20 years or so.depending on how much the tractor is used those flex rings are good for about 10 years or so.

i got the fitting but didnt put it on yet. done some calling around pump rebuilders want to charge 750.00 to 900.00 to fix it. omg. that hurts. this is why i dont like "professionals" i know its a 2 dollar part, and maby 20 min. to clean it.

where are you located? i'm in middle tn. & could give you some names of people who do this work everyday for a whole lot less than what you were quoted.
