Price Check Pricing on a 154 lo-boy

OK all you CUB fans, heres the scoop. I am doing a tree cutting job at a old house in Nashville. In one of the deteriated and collapsing barns sits a Cub lo-boy 154 with old R1 dry rotted tires, a woods underbelly mower (5' I believe) has not been run in years. No 3 point hitch. I would like to buy the old non-running tractor from the owner. It used to belong to his dad about 30 years ago. He said he might sell it at auction this fall. I believe I might be able to snap it up for about $500.00. Is it a good deal, even if the motor is froze? What would be a good price for it?

I would snap it up. $500 is a fair price for a non-running tractor. You could make more than that if you parted it out.

Sold my 154 in 1995 after buying my Kubota 4x4.........Got $2500 for it in good running cond........Mine had the IH 5' deck...........They have about 12 hp as I remember........4 cylinders but pistons about the size of bottle caps...........Not alot of power............Get it running and sell it.!!..........3 speed trans..........1st too slow for mowing, 2nd still too slow, 3rd is a road gear............too fast..........They mow well when grass is dry but the 5' is a struggle when the grass is thick..............Tom

Well, I am going to make an offer to him tomorrow. We will see if he takes it. This guy knows nothing about tractors or mechanical things.
