Pricey carpet strecher

Most of you will get a chuckle out of this so I thought I'd post it. My wife wanted a platform built outside the house door in my garage. After making it, I wanted to put a peice of carpet on it to cover up the plywood top. The carpet was rolled up and lying around for 7 or 8 years now and was not flat at all. No problem, my neighbor used to lay carpet and has a strecher, I'll borrow that and be finished before the football game starts. Why is it that the guy who has the tool you need to borrow is never home when you need it?? Well I came up with a new plan which involved my tractor. Take a look at my Amish carpet stretcher....well kinda.

Yes, these are nice to have around - it gives you something to tramp on or trip over when your working in the garage. That was going to be another project - "shoe rack" (right after the "work bench project" - I just haven't come up with my blue prints yet).

...and doesn't everybody have an old piece of mauve deep-pile carpet rolled up somewhere? That's a great use for it. Your rig reminds me of the wood field fence stretcher we have that's made of two 2x6s bolted together. You just used your tractor instead of a come-along to pull the stretcher.
