Gordon I purchased a Tc40 with 4wd. The dealer is going to pick-up the tractor and do the 50
hour tune-up for free. The price on the tractor was 14,790.00. Hope this helps.

Just wanted to say hello and tell you what a wonderful site you have here.I read all the NH threads to bring myself up to speed.

I am currently pricing my first compact tractor(TC40D).Looking for a tractor to work around our new house which has 8 acres.

Here is what they gave me as far as pricing goes.
TC40DHydro,supersteer,rear worklight,two rear remotes,all manuals $18,865.00

17A loader w/72"HD bucket, quicktach bucket, and two remote ports on the loader arms $5,066.00

758C Backhoe 8' subframe w/ 18" bucket $7,008.00

Landpride FDR2584 finesh mower 84" $2,160.00

Grand total less tax $33,099.00

Does this seem like a fair deal? I will be getting another quote on Friday from a dealer in upstate NY.

Thank you all for your time

Mike, I think your tractor and loader seem to be at least $500 to $700 too high (each). Especially with all the equipment you list, the dealer should be able to make you a far better package deal. I think at or below $30K.

One other thing is that you say you only have 8 acres and you are planning to buy a $7,000 + Backhoe. What are you going to do on 8 acres to justify that? Are you going to remove the loader and backhoe to finish mow? Do you plan to use this tractor in your business? Do you have lots of wide open areas to mow? The TC40D is a big tractor. Add the loader and rear finish mower and you are really BIG/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif.

I don't expect you to answer my barrage of questions here, but I think you need to ask yourself what you absolutely know you need to do and buy your tractor and implements for the 80% of the time use. You could wait for that other 20% and get those implements later when you are sure you need them. At the prices you quoted, you aren't saving that much by buying them now. At $7000, that means you are spending almost $1000 per acre (8 acres) for the backhoe. That's what really got my attention./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif Ouch!

Mike,
I can't comment on the prices really, but it sure sounds like a nice package.

Jim,
Your comment about how big the TC40D is for 8 acres got me thinking /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif. So I did a search on the registered users here /w3tcompact/icons/clever.gif. I found about 25 with a TC40D. Most had under 20 acres, there were a few exceptions with much more. But several people only had 5 acres, one had 4.5 (that was JohnInCA, he also has a TC29D and a 758C bh /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif). So I'm not so sure his tractor size is out of line with his 8 acres, but I'm no expert. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Hey Guys thanks for your response.

My thought is to go with a TC40D so I can run a snowblower and maybe a sweeper broom on my business side of things.

I definately don't need all that machine for eight acres, but don't tell my wife that.LOL Have some big landscape projects I would like to do and who knows maybe pick up some more work through our lawn side of things.

I too thought I should be able to pick up everything for around $30,000. or maybe he can throw in some more attachments(rear blade, york rake,etc.).

Thanks Again

Ok,

That oddball guy in CA can't resist jumping in here. I have 4.5 acres gross, 3.5 acres net (about 1 acre is an easement road). Anyway, I purchased a TC29D 16 months ago. Just last week I bought a TC40D. I had been thinking about it for quite some time, and finally decided it was what I wanted to do. Why? I was looking for more loader power, and a heavier, stronger platform for attachments. I have a large 1000 lb 3 pt chipper that hangs pretty far off the back. Half my property has a fair amount of slope, and sometimes it feels like the tail is wagging the dog. Also, I was thinking that the 758C would be much better on a TC40D than on the TC29D. There are some other niceties such as push-button high/low range, greater hydraulic flow, and of course, more power!

All of this said, I have to agree with jinman's comment. It is a very large tractor, and I will admit having some fear that I might regret it's large size. Since haven't had it out to the property yet (just some minor moving around in the driveway at home), the jury is still out on that issue.

As for the fate of the 29D, the ad comes out this Friday/w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif. On the other hand, the wife did mention something about his and hers tractors.../w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I will agree totally with you guys that the size is pretty large for the property.But...this machine looks like a baby compared to the other toys we have (13 loaders ranging from 1.5 yards to 6 yards.)

My thought process is that I would buy the bigger one now and not have to buy again. Kinda like the boat theory you always look to trade up in a couple of years...I would just take the plunge now.LOL

Thanks
Mike Nelson
