Price Check price depreciation on BX23's and BX24's

I've just about settled on buying a BX23 or BX24 to train myself up on using a TLB before I move to retirement, where I know I'll need something twice as big.

Based on Barlow prices I'm expecting to pay about 12K plus for a low hour BX24.

My SWAG is that a low hour BX24 might depreciate about $1K/year (assuming that the great Kubota in the sky doesn't jack up prices again).

I don't envision putting on more than 200 hours in a year or so.

Any thoughts/suggestions on the matter?

Yes, it probably will drop some in time and use. How much time? You envision 200hrs use per year which isn't much. The question that you have of how much will it drop per year using it 200 hours can not be answered. Now, how much is it worth to you to have this machine to use for 200 hrs per year? $5, $8, $10, $12, $15 per hour? You do know it's not going to be free, so what's your number? Multiply that number times 200 and that will determine it's use/fun value to you per year. Now subtract that number from the purchase price and wonder will it sell for that after the number of years (which you did not tell). Get the machine and forget the math. Enjoy life and get off the sidelines. It takes a Kubota to really enjoy life, if you want one! If it cost you $1000 a year that's cheap fun and if you actually use it then you can save hundreds if not thousands per year. Well maintained equipment will bring decent money and I believe you'll get your moneys worth out of the machine and enjoy life while your doing it. Go ahead, make that call!!! That's my opinion.

Well said and it appears that you covered all bases. It all comes down to what and how one wants to use it and get things done and the monies one saves and the fun he had. Your depreciation is a lot less if one can sell the unit out right when ready to upgrade.

any used BX-TLB hits about 12 once it goes off the lot to cover the initial hit from warrenty, financing, etc. Beyond that it drops VERY slow. You'll see BX22's going for around 10k or so with a fair number of hours on them. Many of them are getting close to 8-9 years old now.
