I don't know how close you are to Somerset, but Barlows was in line with the quotes I am getting closer to home on the 5140. I believe his quote included 16.9s on the rear where most of them I am seeing have the 14.9s. You may want to give them a call if you haven't already.

Yes, I have. I'm going to go w/ an open station so I'll be a bit less than that. Right now I'm at $33,800 for the 6040 and $31,800 for the 5140 as they sit on the lot (loaders w/ hydraulic shuttles). I'm sure I'll add a couple thousand to either depending on the options I go with. My salesman really tried to push the MX5100 and I have to say I was intrigued, but every time I see it next to the M 5K doesn't seem like much money for so much more machine. If for some reason I decide to step down in price I'll probably go w/ a Kioti. Good dealer about 50 miles away and you get more for your money with the DKSE series than you do with the Kubota 00 series tractors (my opinion).

Those prices seem about right i was looking at the M5140 through M8540 when i purchased back in December 2011 The 5140 i priced out was with largest tires and draft control standard rear valve with tire ballast it was right around $30500 OTD Price for the 8540 with 18.40x30 radials was just over $38000 OTD. In the end i decided I'd go for the bigger tractor with LSD and significantly more loader capacity.

What are you planing to do with the tractor as far as implements and sizes? So others might be able to gauge the power you might need and make a recommendation

Hey everyone - I ended up going green. I'll soon be receiving my new JD 5065E w/ 553 loader, MX7 cutter, Frontier BB3284 box blade, (forgot the model number) medium duty Frontier landscape rake, and Cat II quick hitch.

I really agonized over this purchase for months because no matter what tractor and implements I ended up with it would represent a large investment for me, and one I only wanted to make once. In the end I believe my purchase reflects a bit of a back to basics approach (as basic as a $26,000 MFWD tractor can be). I decided I could live without hydros, hydraulic reversers and some of the other niceties available with other models to save a little coin. JD financing didn't hurt either. My local Deere dealer (Hutson Inc.) was offering 0% for 72 months on the E series tractors. I'm guessing this was to clear inventories ahead of the delivery of these models featuring the PowerReverser transmission. I wanted the PowerReverser, but couldn't pass up the deal and didn't want to wait another 6 weeks for delivery.

I think I did ok. Thoughts?

BTW - I think I made my old truck jealous as it promptly took a dump right in the driveway this afternoon (pouring coolant, oil in the jug, sump full of the green stuff) OUCH! I guess it decided if I had some money to spend it wanted its fair share. Did I mention I'm right in the middle of moving to the new property - **** my luck! I guess she'll be getting a new gasket/head or both and we'll be back underway again. At least it did it at home.

Thanks for all your help.

Well in the end all that really matters is if you are satisfied with what you got and it sounds like you are. Don't know much about the Deere models but I do know they make a fine product and it should serve you well for a long time. Too bad about you truck, that's some bad luck right there!

The only opinion that really matters is yours and if you're happy then we're happy, congratulations on your new tractor.

The E model's are good, solid tractors. Stingy on fuel, metal fenders and hood and the 9x3 tranny. Tried and true, wet-cylinder 2.9L turbo engine. I don't know what you worked out for a price in your package deal but, dealer's generally have a smaller margin to work with on the E lineup.

Of course, JD is trying to move the last of the 9x3 tranny versions off the dealer's lots ASAP. So, you might have been able to swing a price cut better than 15% below MSRP.

Nonetheless, I think you can expect many years of good service outta that tractor!

(Although, that hydro, MX5100 sure looks like a sweet utility machine... )
