Hi Group,

I'm looking for my first tractor to be used on my 100 acre hobby farm. I am looking at the 4720 series tractors, open station with a loader. Here is a typical unit I am seeing on Tractor House and was wondering what percentage I can get off the used price. Do you have any suggestions on how to negotiate?

I would like to purchase the tractor in the next 2 months.

I tried searching for similar threads but could not find anything.

Thanks!

John Deere 4720, priced at $29,800

Yep, those tractors listed are all dealer retail pricing. My question is what can I expect to negotiate off of what the dealer is asking for on a used piece of equipment. I have seen where new tractors are discounted around 18%, can I expect that much off what a dealer is asking for a used unit or more?

You may want to check john deere machinefinder. Should be lots of tractors there. Also there may be some private party ads on tractorhouse. I think it would be tough to get 18% off asking price on used. $30k sounds reasonable for 4720 as described. Search enough and you may find a better deal. A former co-worker of mine bought low hour 4720 with cab, loader with grapple bucket, extra tires & wheels & heavy duty tandem axle trailer for $25k at bank repo sale 5 years back; it was probably worth $40k

Thanks for the reply Yooper 68,

I thought 18% was a stretch but it may be my starting point and hopefully I end up with a reasonable discount off list price. There are quite of few units on Tractor house so I figure there should be a motivated seller in the group.

I have to admit I have always disliked the process of price negotiating but its part of the process.

Thanks again!
