OK, stupid question but I am mystified by something.

My tractor has pressure reliefs, one which is probably acting up. I removed it. it is a cylinder, adjusting nut on top. But it, like my PTO actuator have these small holes drilled in them I assume to let fluid through. I look at this and wonder how 18GPM at 3000 PSI gets through these small holes.

And how does it all work? The pressure relief is sending fluid back to the tank (I assume the relief is in an forced open position?) and when I request the fluid to go to whatever device, the drop in pressure closes the relief valve and forces the fluid to the device?

Its these little, simple, mechanically activated devices that I just do not get. I want to say that you guys have pointed me to some interesting literature on how wheel motors and pumps work, thanks for that education.
